RALC staff brought their Halloween spirit and enjoyed dress up days this week!
For this month's wellness activity, students decorated pumpkins with dried flowers. It was relaxing to sit, chat, and be creative together.

Night School students in Indigenous Gardening class learned about gardening, plants, harvesting, and food systems through the lens of Native American teachings. Students spent time in the ALC garden and cooked with the veggies that were harvested!

The RPS School Board on Tuesday, October 20, approved RPS 2030, the district's new strategic plan. The plan sets the direction for the district's work over the next four years and is organized around four priorities: Challenging Learning, Purposeful Pathways, Supportive Communities, and Organizational Excellence. Winona State University senior nursing students helped with vision/hearing screenings this month! Thankful for this partnership to help flag needs. (We're excited to offer students in need free glasses next month through a pilot partnership with Zumbro Valley Medical Society.)

Day School and APEX Recovery School enjoyed a day exploring Nerstrand State Park. The weather was perfect for community building among staff and students. Activities included geocaching (many found all five hidden boxes), learning about and holding snakes, outdoor games, and time on the trails. The trip was only possible through a DNR transportation grant. Thank you to the park naturalist, Andy, for welcoming us.
Ninth grade students learned about phlebotomy as a career through hands-on mobile career kits (thank you to Southeast Cooperative and Mayo Clinic). This session was followed by a presentation by the Mayo Clinic Phlebotomy program director. A huge thank you to Kai, a current RALC senior who is enrolled in the high school phlebotomy pathway.

We loved meeting so many parents/caregivers at our RALC Get to Know Your Support Services - Informational Night! This was a chance for families to learn about the many supports we provide, including our on-site clinic, therapy services, chemical health services, college/career guidance, credit checks, and more.
Nature Rx students went on a fishing trip this week! We appreciate this partnership with Public Health, where they organize outdoor weekly trips. In this program, students learn about how time in nature can be a prescription for well-being.
Thank you to the Mayo Clinic Bloodmobile and nurses for coming out to the ALC. It gives our students an opportunity to donate blood on-site (removing transportation barriers). Many donated for the first time! In total, 14 units were collected. 1 donation can save up to 3 lives - that is up to 42 people our school was able to help!
Through a partnership with Mayo Clinic, students gain skills and experience in a weekly "Bridging the Gap to Employment" class. This will allow students to better position themselves to apply for and enter the Mayo Clinic workforce after graduation.
