ALC students explored careers in the medical field at a recent Health Career Festival. We believe opportunities like these help to open up future possibilities for our students.

Thank you United Way and KAAL-TV for hosting a one-day resource room drive for RPS community schools! They collected shampoo/conditioner, body wash, hand soap, hair brushes, toilet paper, lotion, and so much more! Access to basic hygiene supplies impacts school attendance. Thank you for supporting our students!

We are SO thankful to Mariah, owner of Debonair Hair Co., for providing a Free Haircut Day at the ALC! She's not only a former ALC student, but she was recognized by Post-Bulletin for the 2025 Best of the Best Hair Salon in Rochester! She helped around 15 students, and they were all smiling from ear-to-ear following their cut.

We had our first STRIVE meeting of the year! In this partnership with the Rotary Club, a group of seniors are matched up with adult mentors to talk through future plans, personal finance tips, and work to build a caring relationship. We're grateful for these monthly meetings and to our volunteer mentors.

Our food pantry shelves were running low... Thank you to Christ United Methodist Church for gathering donations to help restock! We welcome shelf-stable food donations anytime school is open from 8:30am-4pm.

ALC Youth Build students have been busy learning carpentry skills through a shed project! We're thankful for this partnership with Workforce Development for helping students to explore the trades.

We're SO appreciative to Think Bank and "Think Gives Day"! Think Bank employees volunteered all over the city yesterday, including at the ALC Community Garden! They helped with one final harvest, and got the garden ready for the winter months and future spring planting. Thank you!

RPS families: This is a reminder that there is no school on Thursday, October 16 and Friday, October 17, for MEA weekend. Enjoy the long weekend, and we'll see you on Monday, October 20!

90 students/staff visited Mystery Cave last week! It was a first for many of our students. It was a great day to tour the cave and enjoy a picnic lunch, games, and socializing in the sunshine. Thank you to Minnesota/DNR for hosting our group!

We loved seeing so many students and families at our Family Welcome Night event! Thank you to everyone who made the event possible, including: Corona's Tacos (delicious meal!), DJ Supafly and his photo booth, all of the community resource table hosts, all of the raffle prize donors, and of course, our wonderful staff!

The ALC is grateful to partner with the Mayo Clinic's Blood Drive program. They bring their mobile bus on-site to our students, who are often first-time donors. They collected a total of 14 units. Each donation helps save up to 3 lives--that's up to 42 people that ALC staff and students helped!

United Way presented a check for $24,000 to distribute among the five community schools in Rochester Public Schools... including the ALC! We are so grateful for this support. These dollars allow the school to fund experiences students wouldn't otherwise have, including boxing classes, music classes, ice skating, sign language classes, nature trips, and more! Thank you!

As part of our Attendance Matters initiative, we are sending all families an attendance update today. This message will provide a current snapshot of your student’s attendance record for the year so far. Our goal is to keep you informed and partner with you to support your student's learning. You can always view up-to-the-minute attendance data in Skyward. Learn more: https://www.rochesterschools.org/attendance-matters

Students toured Riverland Community College in Austin! They learned about a wide variety of programs, including carpentry, nursing, EMS/Fire, massage therapy, IT, and more!

In Nature Rx class with Public Health, students went fishing! They did a mental health check in/check out... and by the end of class, all students posted green smiley faces. Love the smiles all around!

Mrs. Goss' students learned about acids, bases, and pH in this hands-on, interactive lab!

Winona State University senior nursing students have been visiting our school each week and working with our ninth graders! They develop health-related educational lessons around teen issues, like developing healthy sleep habits and balanced nutrition. We appreciate this partnership!
